New York scored 3 runs in the top of the 7th inning with the help of 5 hits. They ended up being the winning runs. The Cincinnati bats were silent in the bottom of the 9th. The victory was credited to Antonelli(9-12) who went the distance, allowing 5 runs. The losing pitcher was Brooks Lawrence(11-10). He gave up 8 runs in 6 and 1/3 innings of work. PHILADELPHIA AT ST. Chico Fernandez came next and he stroked a one-base hit, and an error was also committed, scoring a run. Simmons then worked the squeeze play to perfection scoring the final run of the inning. Both teams ended up with 6 on the night. It was the 2nd shutout of the year for Simmons(11-12). Sam Jones(14-9) took the loss. He pitched 10 innings allowing only 6 hits and 1 walk. Milwaukee won the game with a rally in the 9th inning with 2 runs utilizing 3 base hits. Frank Torre led off and keyed the rally when he smacked a single. Bob Hazle stepped into the batter's box and he doubled, and an error was also committed, plating a run. Johnny Logan then drew a walk. After an out was recorded, Joe Adcock stepped in and he lined a base-hit giving Milwaukee the win and sending the home town fans into a frenzy. Pittsburgh had 13 hits in the game while Milwaukee had 8, but Milwaukee had the more timely hits. Ernie Johnson(11-3) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 1 and 1/3 innings. Bob Purkey(5-16) was charged with the loss in relief. Fred Haney was ebullient after the game, 'It's great to win a hard fought game like that. Our guys just weren't going to be denied. And did you see the fans - they were going wild! Yes sir, a very enjoyable win tonight!' Walls helped send the fans home happy. He stroked a one-base hit in the 3rd inning, delivered a base-hit which scored a run in the 5th inning and caught a hold of a fastball for a Grand Slam homerun (his 7th of the season) in the 6th inning. Chicago ended up with 9 hits for the game while Brooklyn had 5. Dick Drott(8-13) got credit for the victory, pitching 8 innings and allowing 6 runs.
