In the 2nd inning Milwaukee went on top for good scoring 2 runners on 3 hits. That early scoring held up. Milwaukee rapped out 11 hits for the night. The winning pitcher was Spahn(17-10) who allowed 1 run for the game. Dave Hillman(5-9) was the losing pitcher. He allowed 7 hits and 2 walks in 5 innings. CINCINNATI AT ST. Cincinnati was unable to recover after St. Louis went ahead in the bottom of the 2nd inning scoring 2 runs using 4 hits. Noren led off and started the attack as he banged out a single. After an out was recorded, Wally Moon stepped in and he lined a base-hit. Hobie Landrith then slapped a one-base hit to load the bases. Eddie Kasko was up next and he laced a base-hit knocking home two runners. Kasko took second on the throw. Von McDaniel(7-2) got help from Merritt who pitched a perfect ninth and was credited with his 8th save. Hal Jeffcoat(12-10) was given the loss. He allowed St. Louis 5 runs in 4 innings of work. The score was tied at 3 after nine. Pittsburgh ended up winning it in the 10th inning. Dick Groat singled. Bob Skinner came next and he drew a walk. Frank Thomas got his chance to keep things going, but he went down on strikes. Dee Fondy stepped in and he drew a walk to load the bases. Hardy Peterson struck out, unable to help the rally. Jim Pendleton added to the outburst and lined a single making Pittsburgh the victors to the delight of the home town faithful. Pittsburgh had 9 hits for the game and Philadelphia had 5. The win was credited to Roy Face(5-4) who went 1 inning allowing no runs. The losing pitcher was Turk Farrell(1-6) in relief. The game was won by New York with a run in the 9th inning. Daryl Spencer doubled. Valmy Thomas next to the plate and he laced a base-knock. After an out was recorded, Gail Harris stepped up to the plate and he was walked intentionally to load the bases. Danny O'Connell followed and he hit a single resulting in a mighty exciting win for New York and the 5,995 home town fans in attendance. New York and Brooklyn each finished the afternoon with 15 hits. The win went to Ray Monzant(2-0) who allowed no runs in 2 and 2/3 innings. Ed Roebuck(7-5) absorbed the loss in relief.
