In the bottom of the 4th inning Chicago scored 4 runs with the help of 6 hits. They would be enough to earn the win. Chicago finished with 9 hits in the victory. The victory went to Rush(10-13) who went the distance allowing 2 runs. Lew Burdette(9-13) was charged with the loss. 'Rush gave us exactly what we needed tonight,' Bob Scheffing said. 'When he threw the fastball he threw it for strikes. They were really fooled by his change. Most of the time he had them chasing it.' Covington provided much of the offense. He banged out a single which was good for two runs in the 1st inning, delivered a one-base hit in the 5th inning, laced a single scoring a run in the 6th inning and doubled which plated a run in the 8th inning. Milwaukee had a total of 17 hits for the game. Trowbridge(5-3) allowed 2 runs on the game. Dave Hillman(5-8) absorbed the loss. With this win, Milwaukee has a league leading 80-50 record. They have been 6-4 lately. With the loss Chicago now has a record of 59-69. Barclay gave New York a solid outing. He went 8 innings surrendering 8 hits and 1 walk reducing his ERA from 4.82 to 4.60. New York had 12 hits for the afternoon while Pittsburgh had 9. Ron Kline(6-14) suffered the loss. He got hit hard, allowing 11 hits and 4 walks in 7 and 2/3 innings. Both teams were tied at 3 runs apiece after nine innings. New York came out on top in the 11th inning. Ray Jablonski stroked a single. After an out was recorded, Daryl Spencer came to the plate and drew a walk. Whitey Lockman then drew a walk to load the bases. Ray Katt struck out, unable to help the rally. Bobby Thomson stepped into the box and drew a walk making New York the winners and sending the 13,992 fans home happy. Despite losing, Pittsburgh out-hit New York 11 to 6.
