Mathews had a good evening at the plate. He delivered a base-hit in the 3rd inning, delivered a single in the 5th inning, delivered a one-base hit which scored a run in the 6th inning, lofted a solo-blast 'downtown' (his 32nd of the season) in the 8th inning and laced a base-hit scoring a run in the 9th inning.
