Chicago scored 2 runs in the top of the 2nd inning. That early scoring held up. Chicago managed 11 in their victory. Rush(8-13) allowed 1 run on the game. Al Worthington(6-5) was the loser. He pitched 8 innings giving up 10 hits and no walks. 'I've been working on a few things in my delivery, and I think I'm hitting a good groove.' Rush said after the game. 'I'm ready to start another game tomorrow!' Pittsburgh came through with the game-winning runs in the 9th inning scoring 3 runs using 2 hits. After an out was recorded, Bob Skinner initiated the scoring spurt when he drew a walk. Frank Thomas stepped into the batter's box and he delivered a base-hit. Mazeroski then rifled a three-run blast (his 2nd of the season) making Pittsburgh the victors to the delight of the home town faithful. Pittsburgh and Cincinnati each finished the night with 9 hits. Nellie King(4-7) picked up the victory, allowing 1 run in 1 inning. Hersh Freeman(2-3) took the loss in relief. 'Now there is a lesson in perseverance for you,' Mazeroski noted. 'It was looking pretty dim there for a while, but we just kept plugging away and it really paid off in spades! And it was great to see the crowd go crazy there at the end!' ST. Haddix(6-12) contributed a very nicely pitched game. He didn't allow much, just 6 hits and 2 walks in 9 innings lowering his ERA to 4.77. Philadelphia rapped out 15 hits for the night. Vinegar Bend Mizell(6-8) ended up with the loss. He served up 3 homeruns in his 5 and 2/3 innings. Brooklyn scored the decisive runs in a big 9th inning with 2 runs. Jim Gilliam kicked off the action when he drew a walk. Gino Cimoli was the next batter, but he struck out. Gilliam swiped second base. Duke Snider was up next and he blasted a two-run home run (his 31st of the season) giving Brooklyn the win much to the delight of the home town crowd. Brooklyn won despite being out-hit by Milwaukee 14 hits to 10. Clem Labine(8-4) picked up the victory, allowing 2 runs in 1 inning. Dave Jolly(2-2) was hit with the loss in relief. He gave up 2 runs and 1 hit in 1/3 of an inning.
