Dale Long had a big day at the plate. He lost the ball over the fence for three runs (his 18th of the season) in the 2nd inning and stroked a single scoring a run in the 6th inning. Chicago totaled 12 on the afternoon. For Elston(4-8) it was his 3rd shutout this year. Art Fowler(6-5) was the losing pitcher. 'Elston just dominated us' losing pitcher Fowler said. He was unable to control the Philadelphia offense and allowed 7 hits and 2 walks in 2 and 2/3 innings. Roberts was obviously very pleased with his performance in the aftermath of the game, 'It was just one of those games where everything worked.
