Milwaukee wasted no time and took the lead in the first inning as they scored 2 runs on 2 base hits. Both teams ended up with 10 on the night. The winning pitcher was Bob Buhl(15-7) who allowed 5 runs in 7 innings. Ernie Johnson recorded his 11th save. Brooks Lawrence(9-7) took the loss. Milwaukee scored big getting 7 runs off him in 2 and 2/3 innings. The score was knotted at 1 after nine innings. Philadelphia won it in the 12th inning. Ted Kazanski lashed a single. Richie Ashburn stepped into the batter's box and he laid down a sacrifice bunt. Granny Hamner then laced a base-hit. Ed Bouchee was up next and he slapped a single resulting in a mighty exciting win for Philadelphia and the 14,664 home town fans in attendance. The game was a scoreless duel until the 7th inning. Seth Morehead(3-2) went 1 inning allowing no runs for the victory. Red Swanson(5-2) suffered the loss in relief. He pitched 1/3 of an inning allowing 3 hits and no walks. ST. St. Louis scored the decisive runs in a big 9th inning scoring 3 runs on 3 hits. Joe Cunningham opened up the inning nicely when he laced a base-knock. Al Dark stepped up next and he delivered a base-hit. Hobie Landrith then drew a walk to load the bases. Two outs later Don Blasingame came to the plate and tripled clearing all three ducks off the pond. St. Louis managed 9 in their victory. The win was credited to Vinegar Bend Mizell(6-6) who went 8 innings allowing 3 runs. Mizell got relief help from Hoyt Wilhelm who gained credit for his 12th save. The loss was charged to Dick Drott(5-11).
