Jones(11-5) gave a fine effort for St. Louis. He surrendered 8 hits and 2 walks in 9 innings and surrendered 2 'long-bombs'. St. Louis took care of Chicago with no trouble in the 9th. Bob Rush(6-12) was the loser. He pitched 8 innings allowing 7 hits and 5 walks. Hal Jeffcoat(10-6) had a fairly solid outing. He went 7 and 2/3 innings allowing 7 hits and no walks and surrendered 2 homeruns. Milwaukee had a chance in the 9th but they came up short. Raul Sanchez recorded his 7th save. Warren Spahn(11-9) was the losing pitcher. He allowed 11 hits and 5 walks in 8 innings. Both teams were tied at 2 runs apiece after nine innings. Pittsburgh won it in the 10th inning. Bill Virdon singled. Dick Groat stepped up to the plate and he doubled giving Pittsburgh the victory and sending the 18,518 home-town fans home happy. Pittsburgh out-hit Philadelphia for the game, 10 hits to 7. The winning pitcher was Roy Face(2-3) who allowed no runs in 2 innings. Bob Miller(2-2) was charged with the loss in relief. He gave up 1 run and 3 hits in 1 and 1/3 innings. Bressoud enjoyed a fine evening at the plate. He tripled plating a run in the 4th inning and bombed a two-run dinger (his 6th of the season) in the 5th inning. New York had a total of 12 hits for the game. Barclay(5-9) got the victory, allowing 2 runs for the game. Johnny Podres(8-5) was the loser. New York scored big getting 7 runs off him in 5 innings. When questioned, Bill Rigney remarked, 'It's been a while since a win felt this good - heck, it's been a while since we had a win period!'
