Obviously without his best stuff, Art Fowler(5-4) still hung on to pick up the win. He gave up 13 hits and 1 walk in 7 innings. Cincinnati banged out 11 on the afternoon. Tom Acker was credited with his 7th save. Ruben Gomez(11-13) was tagged with the loss. He gave up 7 runs in 6 and 2/3 innings of work. 'I just wanted to give my team a chance to win.' said Fowler, 'I got burned on a couple of pitches. But we won the game, and that's all that matters.' PHILADELPHIA AT ST. McDaniel(4-1) dominated Philadelphia hitters. He gave up just 3 hits and 1 walk in 9 innings improving his ERA from 3.83 to 3.31. St. Louis had a total of 10 hits for the game. The loss was charged to Robin Roberts(6-15). He pitched 7 innings allowing only 4 hits and 1 walk. When questioned about his counterpart after the game, Roberts was lavish in his praise, 'It was obvious very early on that we were going to be in for a long night. McDaniel brought his 'A' game with him - he had good stuff and was able to spot it perfectly. He probably only made one or two bad pitches the entire game! Milwaukee did all the necessary damage in the 1st inning when they tallied 3 runs on 2 hits. That early scoring was all that Burdette(8-9) needed. The pitchers took over after the 4th inning as neither team was able to score again. Danny McDevitt(0-7) was the losing pitcher. He gave up 5 hits and 3 walks in 6 innings.
