In the 6th inning Philadelphia scored 1 run. Although they lost, Cincinnati did out-hit Philadelphia 7 to 4. The victory went to Hearn(2-3) who went the distance allowing 1 run. Hal Jeffcoat(7-6) suffered the loss. He pitched 8 innings allowing only 4 hits and no walks. New York had the winning rally in the 8th inning with 2 runs using 3 hits. After an out was recorded, Whitey Lockman was the sparkplug when he stroked a one-base hit. Bill Rigney then called for a steal which was successful. Taylor Phillips then bounced one in the dirt for a wild pitch bringing in a run. One out later, Mays stepped in and he tripled. Bobby Thomson stepped into the box and drew a walk. Daryl Spencer added to the uprising and delivered a base-hit scoring the final run of the inning. Milwaukee had a chance in the 9th but they came up short. Ruben Gomez(11-11) was the winner allowing 4 runs in 8 innings. Marv Grissom was credited with his 12th save. Phillips(3-2) was tagged with the loss in relief. ST. Moon provided much of the offense. He doubled in the 1st inning, cracked a solo homerun (his 12th of the season) in the 5th inning and doubled bringing in two baserunners in the 9th inning. St. Louis finished with 12 hits in the victory. Dickson(6-6) lasted until the end allowing 1 run for the win. Bob Friend(9-9) took the loss. He was touched for 12 hits and 2 walks in 8 and 2/3 innings. Turk Lown recorded the save, his 4th. Don Drysdale(9-5) ended up with the loss. The Chicago ballclub's record now stands at 38-46. With this loss, Brooklyn has a 5-5 record of late, 51-36 overall.
