Philadelphia never recovered after Cincinnati took the lead in the 2nd inning when they tallied 4 runs on 3 hits. The big moment was provided by Don Hoak who helped quiet the crowd when he belted a three-run homer (his 9th of the season). Cincinnati banged out 10 on the night. The victory went to Joe Nuxhall(9-4) who went 5 and 2/3 innings, allowing 4 runs. Nuxhall got help from Don Gross who earned his 3rd save. Jack Sanford(7-10) was hit with the loss. He surrendered 8 runs in 3 and 1/3 innings and saw his ERA increase from 3.26 to 3.57.
