The game was won by Chicago with a run in the 9th inning. After an out was recorded, Moryn drew a walk. Dale Long came to the plate and doubled. Ernie Banks then was walked intentionally to load the bases. Cal Neeman followed and he hit a sacrifice fly scoring the run. Chicago took care of Philadelphia with no trouble in the bottom of the 9th. Drabowsky(7-5) picked up the complete game victory, allowing 4 runs. The right-handed Drabowsky lost his chance for a no-hitter when Richie Ashburn singled with nobody out in the 7th inning. Turk Farrell(0-4) was the loser in relief. He gave up 1 run and 1 hit in 3 innings. Spahn(10-5) looked very much in control throughout the night. He didn't give up much, just 7 hits and 3 walks in 9 innings. Neither team managed to score after the 3rd inning. The loss was charged to Vern Law(3-8). He allowed 6 hits and 3 walks in 9 innings. ST. Stan Musial led the offense for St. Louis. He blasted a solo shot (his 15th of the season) in the 1st inning, doubled which plated a run in the 3rd inning and doubled which scored a run in the 4th inning. St. Louis finished with 11 hits in the victory. The win was credited to Jones(8-4) who went the whole way allowing 4 runs. The losing pitcher was Ruben Gomez(10-10). He was hit hard and gave up 11 hits and 2 walks in 7 innings. Crowe was in a groove all evening. The Brooklyn fans hated to see him approaching the batter's box. He doubled in the 2nd inning, lofted a three-run bomb in the 6th inning and blasted a two-run home run (his 28th of the season) in the 7th inning. Cincinnati had 12 hits for the night. The win went to Johnny Klippstein(10-2) who allowed 3 runs in 5 innings. Klippstein got relief help from Hersh Freeman who gained credit for his 7th save. Don Newcombe(10-4) was the loser. He surrendered 5 runs and 7 hits in 5 and 2/3 innings. 'I had good swings tonight,' Crowe said, 'Everything felt right'.
