Chicago jumped on top to stay in the 3rd inning scoring 2 runners on 2 hits. The highlight belonged to Lee Walls who silenced the stadium when he tripled scoring two baserunners. Chicago finished with 13 hits while Philadelphia ended up with 8. The win was credited to Bob Rush(5-9) who went 7 and 1/3 innings allowing 2 runs. Rush got help from Jim Brosnan who was credited with his 4th save. Harvey Haddix(2-8) absorbed the loss. Elston(1-4) put on a good performance. He allowed just 5 hits and 4 walks in 9 innings seeing his ERA drop from 2.93 to 2.21. Chicago totaled 8 on the afternoon. The loss was charged to Jack Sanford(7-8). He was the victim of a defensive lapse and did not allow an earned run in the game. Elston was asked about his big strikeout performance, 'Well, it's a little odd when you rack up these numbers on the road - instead of cheers and a running tally in the stands, everything gets real still and quiet. Just strange - but it's nice to be able to take the crowd out of the game.' Friend(9-7) had a solid outing for Pittsburgh. He was reached for 8 hits and 2 walks in 9 innings. Pittsburgh had 12 hits for the night. Bob Trowbridge(1-3) took the loss. He was touched for 12 hits and 3 walks in 8 innings. ST.
