Milwaukee tallied 5 runs in the top of the 6th inning with the help of 4 hits. The big moment was provided by Wes Covington who quieted the home crowd when he blasted a two-run home run (his 9th of the season). Pittsburgh scored in 5 different innings, but their shaky pitching kept them from victory. Bob Buhl(9-7) was the winner allowing 6 runs in 8 and 2/3 innings. Don McMahon was credited with his 4th save. Luis Arroyo(4-3) absorbed the loss in relief. He served up 3 gopher balls in 2 and 2/3 innings.
