LOUIS Giants.......... 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 1 2 - 3 7 0 Cardinals....... 3 0 5 2 0 1 0 0 - 11 13 0 Win:Mizell(3-4) Loss:Gomez(9-8) Homeruns- S.Musial(13th), D.Ennis(12th), K.Boyer(5th) Stan Musial blasted a homerun and had 4 RBI and Vinegar Bend Mizell took a no-hitter into the 7th inning at Sportsman's Park as the St. Louis Cardinals beat the New York Giants 11 to 3. It was a good day for St. Louis thanks to Musial. He clubbed a three-run home run (his 13th of the season) in the 3rd inning, doubled knocking in a run in the 4th inning and laced a base-knock in the 6th inning. St. Louis had 13 hits overall, while New York had 7. Mizell(3-4) went 7 and 1/3 innings allowing 1 run for the win. The left-handed Mizell had his no-hit bid broken up by Daryl Spencer who singled with two outs in the 7th inning. Ruben Gomez(9-8) was hit with the loss. He surrendered 8 runs in 2 and 1/3 innings and saw his ERA increase from 4.15 to 4.63. NEW YORK AT ST. He singled scoring two baserunners in the 1st inning, doubled plating a run in the 2nd inning and lofted a solo-blast 'downtown' (his 14th of the season) in the 3rd inning. St. Louis had 12 hits for the game and New York had 4. Lindy McDaniel(3-8) got the win allowing 2 runs in 7 innings. Ray Crone(4-6) was the losing pitcher. St. Louis now has a record of 32-36. With the loss, the New York ballclub's record is 34-38. Bell had a big day at the plate. He smacked a three-run homer (his 11th of the season) in the 3rd inning, doubled in the 5th inning, laced a single bringing in two baserunners in the 6th inning and delivered a base-hit in the 7th inning. Cincinnati banged out 16 on the afternoon. Lawrence(8-4) got the victory, allowing 2 runs for the game. Curt Simmons(7-6) absorbed the loss. He was not very effective, surrendering 5 runs in 2 and 1/3 innings. With this win, Cincinnati has a league leading 45-26 record. They have been 5-5 lately. Mayo Smith was unhappy with his club's recent performance. 'We can't keep losing games' he said. 'It gets to be embarrassing after a while.' Philadelphia jumped on top of Cincinnati in the top of the 2nd inning when they tallied 2 runs on 3 hits. That was all Harvey Haddix(2-6) needed. Haddix was helped out by Bob Miller who pitched a perfect ninth and recorded his 3rd save. The loss was charged to Johnny Klippstein(8-2). He pitched 8 innings giving up 8 hits and 3 walks.

The Milwaukee Braves topped the Pittsburgh Pirates by the slimmest of margins, 5 to 4. Milwaukee won the game with a rally in the 8th inning when they scored 4 runs on 5 hits. The key at-bat was by Hank Aaron who made the Milwaukee fans a happy lot when he stroked a single bringing in two baserunners. Milwaukee rapped out 8 hits for the afternoon. Dave Jolly(2-1) allowed no runs in 2 innings, and picked up the victory. Jolly got relief help from Don McMahon who gained credit for his 1st save. Vern Law(2-7) ended up with the loss. Milwaukee came through with the game-winning runs in the bottom of the 9th inning with 3 runs on 2 hits. Eddie Mathews opened up the inning nicely when he drew a walk. Two outs later Logan stepped in and he stroked a base-hit. Felix Mantilla then lofted a three-run 'big-fly' (his 1st of the season) making Milwaukee victorious to the delight of the the home town crowd. Milwaukee won despite being out-hit by Pittsburgh 13 hits to 5. Ernie Johnson(5-1) went 1/3 of an inning allowing no runs for the victory. Johnny O'Brien(0-1) was given the loss in relief. He pitched 2/3 of an inning allowing 2 hits and 1 walk. Newcombe(9-3) pitched one of his finer games as he simply was too much for the Chicago batters. He didn't give up much, just 5 hits and no walks in 9 innings. Chicago had a chance in the 9th but they came up short. Don Elston(0-3) suffered the loss. He pitched 8 innings allowing 7 hits and 5 walks. 'I thought it was my best performance in a long time,' said Newcombe. 'I had good command early in the game. I had my control and composure and everything went well.' Drabowsky(5-5) was tremendous on the mound for Chicago. He allowed only 6 hits and 1 walk in 9 innings reducing his ERA from 2.86 to 2.59. Chicago rapped out 10 hits for the afternoon. Danny McDevitt(0-4) was given the loss. He was knocked around, surrendering 5 runs in 4 innings. Bob Scheffing was asked about the performance of Drabowsky, 'He had his good stuff out there this afternoon. The fans really get into it when the strikeouts start mounting up - and that seems to give him even more adrenalin.'
