St. Louis fell behind quickly as the New York offense came through in the first inning when they scored 3 runs on 4 hits. That was all Miller(2-5) needed. New York had 10 hits for the afternoon. The loss was charged to Sam Jones(7-3). New York now has a record of 34-36. With the loss, St. Louis has a record of 5-5 lately, 30-36 overall. Philadelphia came up with the deciding runs in the top of the 9th inning scoring 3 runs utilizing 3 base hits. Willie Jones led off and keyed the rally when he drew a walk. Harmon got a great jump and stole second easily. Joe Lonnett then popped a two-run clout over the fence (his 2nd of the season). Chico Fernandez came up and he lined a base-hit. Philadelphia continued their aggressive style with another stolen base. Roberts added to the outburst and laid down a sacrifice bunt. Richie Ashburn stepped into the batter's box and he slapped a single scoring the final run of the inning. Philadelphia banged out 9 on the afternoon. The win went to Roberts(5-10) who allowed 5 runs in the game. Hersh Freeman(1-1) was the losing pitcher in relief. He gave up 3 hits and no walks in 1 inning. Freeman was feeling apologetic in the locker room, 'I sure let that one get away. What a miserable feeling to let the guys down; and our fans. One minute things are looking great, then. BOOM, it's over with! I just hope I get a chance to redeem myself real soon!'
