St. Louis scored 4 runs in the bottom of the 7th inning with the help of 5 hits. The big moment was provided by Joe Cunningham who made the crowd come alive when he belted a three-run homer (his 4th of the season). St. Louis finished with 12 hits while New York ended up with 8. Larry Jackson(5-2) went 8 innings allowing 4 runs for the win. Hoyt Wilhelm recorded the save, his 6th. Curt Barclay(3-5) was the loser. He gave up 7 runs in 6 and 2/3 innings of work. Cincinnati came through with the game-winning runs in the bottom of the 9th inning when they tallied 5 runs on 3 hits. The critical plate appearance was by Crowe who made the crowd happy when he hit a 'grand salami' to the delight of his teammates (his 22nd of the season). Cincinnati managed 10 in their victory. Raul Sanchez(1-1) picked up the victory, allowing 2 runs in 2 innings. Turk Farrell(0-3) took the loss in relief. He allowed 2 runs and 2 hits without retiring a batter. 'What a game!,' Sanchez said afterward. 'When we won it I almost couldn't believe it!' The score was knotted at 5 after nine innings. Pittsburgh came out on top in the 10th inning. After an out was recorded, Mejias tripled. Jim Pendleton followed, but he was set down on strikes. Hank Foiles then stroked a base-hit scoring the run. Pittsburgh had 11 hits overall, while Milwaukee had 8. The victory went to Nellie King(3-3) who went 1 and 1/3 innings, allowing no runs.
