Pittsburgh tallied 5 runs in the 6th inning with the help of 7 hits. The highlight belonged to Roberto Clemente who electrified Forbes Field when he doubled bringing in two baserunners. Pittsburgh banged out 13 on the afternoon. Arroyo(4-1), allowing 2 runs for the game, picked up the victory. Don Kaiser(2-5) took the loss. By surrending 6 runs in 5 and 2/3 innings his ERA jumped from 4.36 to 4.70. Chicago had a chance in the 9th but they came up short. The win was credited to Bob Purkey(3-7) who went 8 innings allowing 3 runs. Roy Face recorded his 4th save. Bob Rush(3-7) was the losing pitcher. He surrendered 6 hits and 1 walk in 6 innings. 'We won because we did the little things right.' Bobby Bragan said after the game. 'This is why we practice things over and over and over, so when we get in close games we don't make mistakes.' New York scored 3 runs in the bottom of the 7th inning when they had 3 base hits. The key at-bat was by Willie Mays who made the home-town crowd a happy bunch when he smashed a two-run homer (his 13th of the season). Although they lost, Cincinnati did out-hit New York 12 to 9. Ray Crone(4-3) allowed 3 runs in 7 innings, and picked up the victory. Al Worthington earned the save, his 1st. Don Gross(6-3) ended up with the loss. He was touched for 3 homeruns in his 6 and 2/3 innings of work. 'It wasn't my best outing, but I'll take the win' Crone said. Sawatski enjoyed a big day at the plate. He lined a base-hit in the 3rd inning, blasted a two-run home run in the 5th inning and blasted a solo shot (his 5th of the season) in the 7th inning. Philadelphia threatened in the 9th but Milwaukee was able to put down the rally. Pizarro(6-2) lasted until the end allowing 4 runs for the win. The loss was charged to Robin Roberts(3-9). He served up 3 gopher balls in 8 innings. 'I just wanted to give my team a chance to win.' said Pizarro, 'I got burned on a couple of pitches. But we won the game, and that's all that matters.'

Blaylock helped send the fans home happy. He doubled in the 1st inning, hit a 'grand salami' to the delight of his teammates (his 2nd of the season) in the 6th inning and doubled which scored a run in the 8th inning. Overall Philadelphia out-hit Milwaukee 15 to 12. The victory went to Curt Simmons(6-4) who went 6 and 1/3 innings, allowing 5 runs. Bob Miller earned his 2nd save. Lew Burdette(3-5) absorbed the loss. He got hit hard, allowing 14 hits and 3 walks in 7 and 2/3 innings. 'I felt great out there today,' Blaylock said, 'Maybe I should make a regular habit of getting to bed on time!' ST. Drysdale put on a good performance. He allowed just 7 hits and 4 walks in 8 and 2/3 innings reducing his ERA from 4.03 to 3.64. The pitchers took over after the 1st inning as neither team was able to score again. Clem Labine got the save, his 8th. ST.
