Barclay(3-3) delivered a fine performance for New York. He went 9 innings surrendering 6 hits and 2 walks and was touched for 2 homeruns. New York banged out 10 on the afternoon. The losing pitcher was Bob Rush(3-6). He gave up 4 runs and 8 hits in 6 innings. The game was decided in the top of the 9th inning. Ed Bailey drew a walk. Don Hoak came next and he drew a walk. After an out was recorded, Smoky Burgess came to the plate and drew a walk to load the bases. Johnny Temple stepped in and he hit a sacrifice fly scoring the run. Cincinnati had a total of 8 hits for the game. Johnny Klippstein(7-1) picked up the victory, allowing 2 runs in 8 innings. Klippstein got help from Hersh Freeman who earned his 4th save. Roy Face(1-3) ended up with the loss in relief. He surrendered 1 run and 1 hit in 2 innings. The Cincinnati ballclub's record now stands at a league leading 35-18. With this loss, Pittsburgh has a 4-6 record of late, 21-30 overall. ST. St. Louis brought 3 runs across the plate in the top of the 7th inning with the help of 4 hits. They would be enough to earn the win. St. Louis had 10 hits for the night. The win went to Jackson(3-1) who allowed 1 run in the game. Robin Roberts(3-8) absorbed the loss. He pitched 9 innings giving up 10 hits and 2 walks. With this win, St. Louis has a 21-28 record. The Brooklyn Dodgers won by the slimmest of margins, 5 to 4. In the 7th inning Brooklyn scored 3 runs when they had 4 base hits. The big moment was provided by Jim Gilliam who elicited a roar from the hometown fans when he tripled scoring two baserunners. Brooklyn took care of Milwaukee with no trouble in the 9th. The winning pitcher was Johnny Podres(4-3) who allowed 4 runs in 7 and 2/3 innings. Podres was helped out by Ed Roebuck who recorded his 6th save. Gene Conley(3-3) was the losing pitcher.
