New York jumped on top to stay in the bottom of the 6th inning scoring 3 runs utilizing 3 base hits. After two were out Ray Katt kicked off the action when he stroked a one-base hit. Daryl Spencer came next and he drew a walk. Gail Harris then lost the ball over the fence for three runs (his 8th of the season). New York had 15 hits for the game and Chicago had 8. Ruben Gomez(6-7) allowed 4 runs in 6 innings, and picked up the victory. Mike McCormick earned the save, his 2nd. Don Kaiser(2-4) was the losing pitcher. He was knocked around by New York, allowing 8 hits and 4 walks in 5 and 2/3 innings. Gross(6-2) delivered a fine performance for Cincinnati. He went 6 and 1/3 innings allowing 2 hits and 2 walks lowering his ERA from 2.89 to 2.64. The left-handed Gross lost his chance for a no-hitter when Bill Virdon doubled with nobody out in the 6th inning. Cincinnati had 7 hits for the night. Tom Acker recorded the save, his 3rd. The loss was charged to Bob Purkey(2-7). He allowed 6 hits and 3 walks in 8 innings. ST. Simmons(5-4) simply dominated St. Louis. He surrendered only 3 hits and 1 walk in 9 innings improving his ERA from 3.40 to 3.05. Philadelphia managed only 6 on the night. Murry Dickson(3-4) absorbed the loss. 'He was moving it around and spotting it very well.' Fred Hutchinson said. Simmons pitched a great game. He deserves all the credit.' Adcock was unconscious all evening. The Brooklyn fans hated to see him approaching the batter's box as he just kept delivering base hits! He cleared the fences for a two-run home run in the 1st inning, bombed a two-run dinger (his 9th of the season) in the 2nd inning, doubled in the 4th inning and smacked a single knocking in a run in the 9th inning. Milwaukee kept the scorekeepers busy in the 2nd inning with 6 runs on 6 hits. Brooklyn was out-hit by Milwaukee, 20 hits to 8. The winning pitcher was Ray Crone(3-3) who allowed 5 runs in 8 and 2/3 innings. Roger Craig(3-3) was charged with the loss. He pitched 1 and 2/3 innings allowing 7 hits and 1 walk.
