NEWSPAPER GAME STORIES FOR 1957 National League Date: 6/6/1957

CINCINNATI AT PHILADELPHIA Redlegs......... 0 1 1 0 1 0 0 0 0 - 3 11 1 Phillies........ 0 0 0 2 0 0 0 0 0 - 2 7 1 Win:Jeffcoat(5-3) Loss:Simmons(4-4) Homeruns- F.Robinson(7th) Hal Jeffcoat completed the game without help from the bullpen and Frank Robinson went yard and had 2 RBI at Connie Mack Stadium where the Cincinnati Redlegs beat the Philadelphia Phillies by the score of 3 to 2. In the 5th inning Cincinnati scored 1 run with the help of 3 hits. That would be the winning tally. Cincinnati had a total of 11 hits for the game. The victory went to Jeffcoat(5-3) who went the distance allowing 2 runs. Curt Simmons(4-4) was the loser. He pitched 9 innings giving up 11 hits and 3 walks. MILWAUKEE AT NEW YORK Braves.......... 0 3 0 1 2 3 1 0 2 - 12 16 1 Giants.......... 1 0 0 0 1 1 0 1 3 - 7 12 0 Win:Pizarro(4-2) Loss:Burnside(0-5) Homeruns- H.Aaron(11th), E.Mathews(9th), A.Pafko(1st), D.Crandall(5th), J.Pizarro(3rd), W.Mays(11th) Juan Pizarro hit one over the fence and had 3 RBI as the Milwaukee Braves topped the New York Giants by a score of 12 to 7 at Polo Grounds. Milwaukee took the lead for keeps in the 2nd inning scoring 3 runners on 3 hits. The big moment was provided by Pizarro who silenced Polo Grounds as he lost the ball over the fence for three runs. New York was not lacking for run support as they scored in 5 separate innings, yet victory eluded them as they seemed to forget that pitching is also needed to win ballgames. Pizarro(4-2) got credit for the victory, pitching 8 innings and allowing 7 runs. Pete Burnside(0-5) took the loss. He served up 3 gopher balls in 4 and 2/3 innings. No one has been able to stop Milwaukee lately as they lengthened their winning streak to 6 games. ST. LOUIS AT PITTSBURGH Cardinals....... 0 0 0 0 1 0 1 0 0 - 2 8 1 Pirates......... 0 0 0 1 0 0 2 3 - 6 12 0 Win:Friend(4-5) Loss:McDaniel(0-6) Homeruns- A.Dark(2nd), G.Baker(1st), H.Foiles(7th) Bob Friend pitched a complete game and shortstop Gene Baker hit a homerun and had 2 RBI at Forbes Field as the Pittsburgh Pirates beat the St. Louis Cardinals by the count of 6 to 2. Friend(4-5) pitched a fine game. He was reached for 8 hits and 3 walks in 9 innings. Pittsburgh rapped out 12 hits for the night. Lindy McDaniel(0-6) absorbed the loss. He gave up 3 runs and 8 hits in 7 innings. CHICAGO AT BROOKLYN Cubs............ 0 1 2 0 4 0 0 0 0 - 7 5 2 Dodgers......... 2 1 0 0 0 0 0 0 2 - 5 10 1 Win:Kaiser(2-3) Loss:Drysdale(4-2) Save:Lown(2nd) Homeruns- E.Banks(15th), D.Long(6th), C.Neeman(5th), D.Snider(12th), R.Campanella(7th) In a close game it was the Chicago Cubs 7, the Brooklyn Dodgers 5 at Ebbets Field. Don Kaiser(2-3) earned his pay with a solid performance for Chicago. He allowed 8 hits and 2 walks in 8 and 1/3 innings and surrendered 2 'long-bombs'. Brooklyn made it exciting in the 9th, but they were unable to push the needed runs across. Turk Lown earned his 2nd save. Don Drysdale(4-2) was hit with the loss. He allowed 3 homeruns in 8 and 2/3 innings of work.
