Long was a seemingly constant irritant to the hometown fans as he provided much of the offense for the visitors. He ripping a solo home run in the 4th inning and smashed a two-run homer (his 5th of the season) in the 6th inning. Chicago had a total of 9 hits for the game. Drabowsky(3-4) was the winner allowing 3 runs for the game. Don Gross(4-2) was the losing pitcher. He allowed 3 homeruns in 7 innings of work. The Chicago ballclub's record now stands at 16-22. Klippstein(5-1) pitched a fine game. He went 9 innings surrendering 6 hits and 3 walks and surrendered 2 'round-trippers'. Cincinnati had 7 hits for the afternoon. Bob Rush(3-5) took the loss. New York erupted with the game winning runs in the top of the 8th inning scoring 5 runners on 4 hits. The big moment was provided by Andre Rodgers who deflated the spirits of the home town crowd when he laced a one-base hit scoring two baserunners. New York managed 13 in their victory. Marv Grissom(2-1) got the win allowing 4 runs in 2 and 2/3 innings. Ron Kline(4-5) was charged with the loss. He allowed 10 hits and 4 walks in 7 innings. Pittsburgh jumped out to the early lead in the first inning scoring a single run utilizing 2 base hits. That scoring would be all that was needed. Pittsburgh finished with 15 hits in the victory. Purkey(2-5) was credited with the shutout. Pete Burnside(0-4) ended up with the loss. Purkey was obviously very pleased with his performance in the aftermath of the game, 'It was just one of those games where everything worked. My arm felt great, heck, I could have pitched another two or three innings. I only hope that I can do it again next time out!' ST. Mathews had a great day at the plate. He had the crowd cheering his every move. He cleared the fences for a two-run home run in the 1st inning, lofted a three-run bomb (his 8th of the season) in the 3rd inning and slapped a one-base hit in the 5th inning. Milwaukee finished with 11 hits in the victory. Buhl(6-2) lasted until the end allowing 1 run for the win. Larry Jackson(2-1) was hit with the loss. He was touched for 3 homeruns in his 7 innings of work. Milwaukee continued their winnings ways improving their record to 25-16. They are 8-2 in their last ten games. St. Louis can't seem to snap out of their recent 'funk'. Now they have a miserable 2-8 record over the last couple weeks.

In the top of the 7th inning Brooklyn scored 4 runs when they had 3 base hits. The key at-bat was by Jim Gilliam who silenced the crowd when he stroked a base-hit bringing in two baserunners. The Philadelphia batters went down meekly in the bottom of the 9th. The win went to Newcombe(5-1) who allowed 2 runs in the game. Jim Hearn(1-2) was the loser in relief. He pitched 4 and 1/3 innings and surrendered 3 hits and 1 walk.
