Drott(3-2) gave Chicago a solid outing. He surrendered only 7 hits and 2 walks in 9 innings seeing his ERA drop from 4.97 to 4.53. Chicago had a total of 11 hits for the game. The losing pitcher was Ray Crone(1-3). He was unable to control the Chicago offense and allowed 9 hits and 3 walks in 6 innings. Drott was asked about his big strikeout performance, 'Well, it's a little odd when you rack up these numbers on the road - instead of cheers and a running tally in the stands, everything gets real still and quiet. Just strange - but it's nice to be able to take the crowd out of the game.' Smoky Burgess stepped up next and he cracked a solo homerun (his 3rd of the season). Cincinnati rapped out 10 hits for the afternoon. Nuxhall(4-1) was the winner allowing 2 runs for the game. Willard Schmidt(2-3) was the loser. Birdie Tebbetts was all smiles after the game, 'To pull a game out in your last at bats, is a beautiful feeling - and did you see how quiet it got out there? Simmons(4-3) pitched a fine game. He allowed 9 hits and 1 walk in 9 innings reducing his ERA from 3.68 to 3.46. Philadelphia totaled 13 on the afternoon. Ruben Gomez(4-6) ended up with the loss.
