The score was tied at 1 after nine. St. Louis came out on top in the 10th inning. Walker Cooper stroked a single. Don Blasingame stepped into the batter's box and he lashed a single. Blasingame stole second with some aggressive base running. After an out was recorded, Stan Musial stepped up to the plate and he was walked intentionally to load the bases. Wally Moon stepped into the box and stroked a one-base hit resulting in an exciting win for St. Louis and a raucous post-game celebration by the home town fans. The game was a scoreless duel until the 6th inning. The win went to Jackson(2-0) who allowed 1 run in the game. Moe Drabowsky(2-4) was charged with the loss. He gave up 11 hits and 2 walks in 9 and 1/3 innings. Milwaukee claimed the early lead in the first inning plating an isolated run. Milwaukee had only 6 hits for the night. Spahn(4-3), allowing 2 runs for the game, picked up the victory. Don Gross(4-1) was the loser. He allowed 3 hits and 2 walks in 5 innings. Bowman had a big day with his bat. He smacked a three-run homer (his 4th of the season) in the 5th inning and tripled in the 8th inning. Philadelphia banged out 12 on the night. Sanford(3-3) picked up the complete game victory, allowing 5 runs. Johnny Antonelli(3-5) was the losing pitcher. He was touched for 3 homeruns in his 2 and 2/3 innings of work. No runners had crossed home plate after the regulation nine. Finally, Brooklyn pulled the game out in the 10th inning. The highlight belonged to Hodges who quieted the crowd when he smashed a two-run homer (his 3rd of the season). For the game Brooklyn out-hit Pittsburgh 14 to 6. Ed Roebuck(3-3) was the winner allowing 2 runs in 2 innings. The right-handed Newcombe had his no-hit bid broken up by Bill Mazeroski who singled with nobody out in the 7th inning. Bob Friend(3-5) was tagged with the loss.
