St. Louis was unable to recover after Chicago went ahead in the 3rd inning with 2 runs on 3 hits. Bobby Morgan kicked off the action when he delivered a base-hit. Ernie Banks next to the plate and he smashed a two-run homer (his 11th of the season). St. Louis had a chance in the 9th but they came up short. Rush(3-4) was the winner allowing 3 runs for the game. Lindy McDaniel(0-4) absorbed the loss. He surrendered 10 hits and no walks in 7 innings. 'We just made a lot of mistakes, mostly mental,' Fred Hutchinson said. 'It's bad enough when the other team beats you, but when you start beating yourselves, that's really bad.' The game was a scoreless duel until the 8th inning. Don Bessent(2-1) got credit for the victory, pitching 2/3 of an inning and allowing no runs. The right-handed Drysdale had his no-hit bid broken up by Chico Fernandez who doubled with one out in the 6th inning. Clem Labine earned the save, his 6th. Bob Miller(2-1) was charged with the loss in relief. 'It felt really nice to get this win,' Bessent said. 'I kind of dictated the game. It's what I get paid to do. It worked out this time.'
