Drabowsky(2-3) had a strong outing. He didn't allow much, just 6 hits and 6 walks in 9 innings lowering his ERA to 3.32. After the 4th inning, neither team was able to score. Warren Spahn(3-3) was hit with the loss. He gave up 2 runs and 9 hits in 8 innings. The Philadelphia Phillies topped the Pittsburgh Pirates by the slimmest of margins, 2 to 1. The score was knotted at 1 after nine innings. Finally, Philadelphia pulled the game out in the 10th inning. Bob Miller drew a walk. After an out was recorded, Richie Ashburn came to the plate and doubled. One out later, Stan Lopata stepped in and he banged out a single making Philadelphia the winners and sending the 18,228 fans home happy. The game was a scoreless duel until the 7th inning. The win went to Miller(2-0) who allowed no runs in 2 innings. Roy Face(0-2) absorbed the loss in relief. He pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up 2 hits and 1 walk. ST. The home town fans were very appreciative of the fine hitting performance provided by Post. He lashed a single resulting in a run in the 2nd inning, bombed a two-run dinger (his 3rd of the season) in the 3rd inning, doubled in the 5th inning and delivered a one-base hit knocking in a run in the 6th inning. Cincinnati provided plenty of action in the 2nd inning with 6 runs on 5 hits and the 6th inning which saw them plate 6 runs on 7 hits. Cincinnati ended up with 21 hits for the game while St. Louis had 9. The victory went to Joe Nuxhall(3-1) who went 8 and 2/3 innings, allowing 3 runs. Sam Jones(5-1) was tagged with the loss. He surrendered 6 runs and 5 hits in 1 and 1/3 innings. The game was deadlocked at 4 after nine full innings. New York came out on top in the 12th inning. After two were out Willie Mays got things rolling when he hit a bases-empty home run (his 6th of the season). Sauer came to the plate and smashed a bases-empty 'big-fly' (his 7th of the season). New York rapped out 13 hits for the night. Mike McCormick(3-0) went 2 innings allowing no runs for the win. Don Bessent(1-1) was hit with the loss in relief.
