The home town fans were very appreciative of the fine hitting performance provided by Walt Moryn. He doubled in the 4th inning and hit a 'grand salami' to the delight of his teammates (his 4th of the season) in the 5th inning. Chicago managed 13 in their victory. Drott(2-1), allowing 3 runs for the game, picked up the victory. Stu Miller(0-1) took the loss. He served up 3 gopher balls in 5 and 2/3 innings. Cincinnati had the game winning rally in the bottom of the 9th inning scoring 2 runs on 2 hits. Don Hoak opened up the inning nicely when he stroked a base-hit. Two outs later Bob Thurman stepped in and he cleared the fences for a two-run home run (his 2nd of the season) giving Cincinnati the victory and sending the 17,737 home-town fans home happy. Cincinnati had a total of 10 hits for the game. Hersh Freeman(1-0) allowed 1 run in 2/3 of an inning, and picked up the victory. Ed Roebuck(2-3) suffered the loss in relief. He surrendered 1 hit and no walks without retiring a batter.
