Cincinnati came through with the game-winning runs in the bottom of the 8th inning when they tallied 5 runs on 4 hits. The key at-bat was by George Crowe who electrified Crosley Field when he lifted one out of the park for a two run home run (his 7th of the season). The game was a scoreless duel until the 6th inning. Nuxhall(2-1) was the winner allowing 2 runs for the game. Ruben Gomez(3-4) absorbed the loss. He allowed 6 runs and 7 hits in 7 and 2/3 innings. PHILADELPHIA AT ST. Simmons(3-2) earned his pay with a solid performance for Philadelphia. He surrendered 7 hits and 2 walks in 9 innings lowering his ERA to 3.12. Philadelphia rapped out 13 hits for the afternoon. Vinegar Bend Mizell(1-2) suffered the loss. He had trouble throwing strikes and issued 10 walks in 7 and 1/3 innings. Milwaukee erupted with the game winning runs in the 9th inning scoring 2 runs using 2 hits. After an out was recorded, Danny O'Connell kicked off the action when he banged out a single. One out later, Mathews stepped in and he cleared the fences for a two-run home run (his 4th of the season) resulting in an exciting win for Milwaukee and a raucous post-game celebration by the home town fans. Despite losing, Pittsburgh out-hit Milwaukee 11 to 8. Ernie Johnson(1-0) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 1/3 of an inning. Bob Purkey(1-4) was tagged with the loss in relief. Milwaukee now has a record of 15-12. With the loss, the Pittsburgh ballclub's record is 11-16.
