St. Louis set the tone of the game in the first inning as they showed no mercy on New York blasting them for 4 hits and plating 7 runs. That scoring would be all that was needed. St. Louis had a total of 14 hits for the game. Jones(4-0) got the victory, allowing 3 runs for the game. The losing pitcher was Johnny Antonelli(3-4). He pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up 4 hits and 2 walks. The Cincinnati Redlegs topped the Philadelphia Phillies by the slimmest of margins, 3 to 2. Tom Acker(1-3) put in a pedestrian relief performance just good enough for the victory. He went 1 inning allowing 3 hits and 1 walk. Cincinnati rapped out 8 hits for the night. Acker got help from Hersh Freeman who was credited with his 2nd save. Jack Sanford(2-3) was tagged with the loss. He surrendered 8 hits and 3 walks in 8 innings. Drysdale(3-0) had a strong outing. He didn't give up much, just 4 hits and 1 walk in 9 innings lowering his ERA to 3.09. The right-handed Drysdale lost his no-hit bid when Ernie Johnson singled with nobody out in the 6th inning. Brooklyn managed 9 in their victory. Gene Conley(2-2) was tagged with the loss. He was knocked around by Brooklyn, allowing 6 hits and 3 walks in 3 and 2/3 innings. Drysdale was obviously very pleased with his performance in the aftermath of the game, 'It was just one of those games where everything worked. My arm felt great, heck, I could have pitched another two or three innings. I only hope that I can do it again next time out!'
