Milwaukee did all the necessary damage in the 1st inning when they scored 4 runs on 5 hits. That early run support was enough for Gene Conley(2-1) and Milwaukee. The pitchers took over after the 1st inning as neither team was able to score again. Ernie Johnson recorded the save, his 1st. Don Cardwell(1-1) was given the loss. He pitched 8 innings giving up 10 hits and 3 walks. ST. Hacker(3-0) was very good in the win. He didn't give up much, just 5 hits and 1 walk in 9 innings. Cincinnati banged out 14 on the night. Don Newcombe(3-1) was the losing pitcher. He got hit pretty hard, allowing 6 hits and 3 walks in 3 innings. When questioned about his counterpart after the game, Newcombe was lavish in his praise, 'It was obvious very early on that we were going to be in for a long night. Hacker brought his 'A' game with him - he had good stuff and was able to spot it perfectly. He probably only made one or two bad pitches the entire game!
