The score was tied at 4 after nine. Chicago won it in the 10th inning. Bob Speake led off the inning for Chicago when he doubled. Two outs later Lee Walls came up and he bombed a two-run dinger (his 1st of the season). The game was a wild affair with the lead changing hands 5 times. Dave Hillman(1-1) got credit for the victory, pitching 3 innings and allowing 1 run. Robin Roberts(0-4) was given the loss. He gave up 6 runs and 11 hits in 10 innings. He stroked a single in the 1st inning, doubled which was good for two runs in the 7th inning and ripping a solo home run (his 2nd of the season) in the 9th inning. Despite scoring in 5 separate innings, New York could not get the win. Johnny Klippstein(3-0) went 7 and 2/3 innings allowing 5 runs for the victory. Pete Burnside(0-3) was hit with the loss. He allowed 8 hits and 3 walks in 5 innings. It seemed that Milwaukee pitching was serving up softballs for Thomas to hit. He laced a single in the 2nd inning, stroked a base-hit scoring a run in the 3rd inning, banged out a one-base hit in the 5th inning, doubled plating a run in the 7th inning and lofted a three-run 'big-fly' (his 3rd of the season) in the 8th inning. Pittsburgh had 17 hits for the night. Kline(2-2) allowed 1 run on the game. Lew Burdette(0-3) was the losing pitcher. He surrendered 7 runs and 14 hits in 7 innings. The Pittsburgh ballclub's record now stands at 6-8. With this loss, Milwaukee has a 5-5 record of late, 6-7 overall. ST. St. Louis made it exciting in the 9th, but they were unable to push the needed runs across. Ed Roebuck recorded his 2nd save. Wehmeier suffered the loss. He allowed just 2 runs and 3 hits in 8 innings. 'It's a disheartening loss, no question about it' said Fred Hutchinson 'But we have to get over it and get ready for the next game.'
