Milwaukee brought 2 runs across the plate in the 6th inning with the help of 3 hits. They would prove to be the difference in the contest. Milwaukee finished with 11 hits in the victory. The win went to Phillips(1-0) who allowed 1 run in the game. Tom Acker(0-2) suffered the loss. He gave up 2 runs and 6 hits in 6 innings. Philadelphia kept the pressure on throughout the contest as they scored in 6 different innings. The win went to Jim Hearn(1-1) who allowed 2 runs in 5 innings. Hearn got help from Meyer who earned his 1st save. Pete Burnside(0-2) was given the loss. By surrending 5 runs in 1 inning his ERA jumped from 4.50 to 9.00. ST. St. Louis lit up the scoreboard in the 9th inning when they had 4 runs on 3 hits. Lloyd Merritt earned the save with a perfect ninth, his 1st save. The victory was credited to Vinegar Bend Mizell(1-0) who went 5 innings, allowing no runs. Tom Poholsky(0-1) was charged with the loss. He was unable to control the St. Louis offense and allowed 12 hits and 2 walks in 5 and 1/3 innings.

The loss was charged to Roger Craig(1-1). Friend was pleased with his performance. He noted, 'I had good zip on my pitches. Just as important, my location was right on. The fans really got into the game too - that always helps me. Now, if I can only do that again in my next outing.'
