Johnny Klippstein(2-0) pitched a fine game. He allowed 9 hits and 3 walks in 8 and 2/3 innings and served up 2 'big flies' reducing his ERA from 2.84 to 2.53. Milwaukee had a chance to come back in the 9th but they came up short. Raul Sanchez recorded the save, his 2nd. Warren Spahn(2-1) absorbed the loss. He gave up just 3 runs and 4 hits in 8 innings. 'I was a little good, a little bad and a little ugly.' said Klippstein, 'I was just giving us a chance to win.' After an out was recorded, Dale Long stepped up to the plate and he drew a walk. Roberto Clemente then stroked a one-base hit to load the bases. Lee Walls got his turn next, but he was a strikeout victim. Dick Groat stepped into the box and doubled giving Pittsburgh the win much to the delight of the home town crowd. Pittsburgh had 12 hits overall, while Brooklyn had 9. Bob Kuzava(1-0) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 1 inning. Clem Labine(1-2) took the loss in relief. 'What a win!', Kuzava said.
