NEWSPAPER GAME STORIES FOR 1957 National League Date: 4/24/1957

CHICAGO AT MILWAUKEE Cubs............ 0 0 0 0 1 0 2 0 0 0 0 1 - 4 11 0 Braves.......... 0 0 1 0 1 0 0 0 1 0 0 0 - 3 11 2 Win:Lown(1-0) Loss:Conley(0-1) Homeruns- H.Aaron(1st) Turk Lown pitched 4 strong innings and center fielder Bobby Del Greco had 3 base hits and 2 RBI as the Chicago Cubs defeated the Milwaukee Braves in 12 innings by the score of 4 to 3 at County Stadium. The game was deadlocked at 3 after nine full innings. Chicago won the hard fought contest in the 12th inning. Dee Fondy drew a walk. Fondy took off for second and slid in with a stolen base. Chicago continued their aggressive style with another stolen base. One out later, Walt Moryn came to the plate and hit a deep fly scoring the run. Both teams ended up with 11 on the afternoon. The win was credited to Lown(1-0) who went 4 innings allowing 1 run. Gene Conley(0-1) was the loser in relief. He gave up no hits and 1 walk in 1 inning. CINCINNATI AT ST. LOUIS Redlegs......... 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 2 0 - 2 7 6 Cardinals....... 4 3 0 4 0 0 1 0 - 12 15 0 Win:Dickson(2-0) Loss:Jeffcoat(1-1) Homeruns- W.Moon-2(3rd) Wally Moon ripped 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI as the St. Louis Cardinals ballclub embarrassed the Cincinnati Redlegs by the count of 12 to 2. Moon had a good evening at the plate. He popped a two-run clout over the fence in the 2nd inning, delivered a single in the 4th inning and cracked a solo homerun (his 3rd of the season) in the 7th inning. St. Louis finished with 15 hits while Cincinnati ended up with 7. Murry Dickson(2-0) went 7 and 2/3 innings allowing 2 runs for the win. Hal Jeffcoat(1-1) was given the loss. He pitched 1 and 1/3 innings and surrendered 7 hits and 3 walks. PITTSBURGH AT NEW YORK Pirates......... 0 0 1 0 0 0 1 2 1 - 5 11 0 Giants.......... 0 0 0 0 0 2 0 0 0 - 2 9 0 Win:Kline(1-1) Loss:Burnside(0-1) Homeruns- H.Foiles-2(4th) Hank Foiles launched 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI and Ron Kline was able to finish what he started and was credited with a complete game as the Pittsburgh Pirates topped the New York Giants by a score of 5 to 2 at Polo Grounds. Foiles was a seemingly constant irritant to the hometown fans as he provided much of the offense for the visitors. He singled in the 4th inning, smashed a bases-empty 'big-fly' in the 7th inning and blasted a two-run home run (his 4th of the season) in the 8th inning. Pittsburgh banged out 11 on the afternoon. Kline(1-1), allowing 2 runs for the game, picked up the victory. Pete Burnside(0-1) was the losing pitcher. He allowed 9 hits and 4 walks in 8 innings.
