Buhl(1-0) was very good in the win. He didn't give up much, just 5 hits and 2 walks in 9 innings. Milwaukee had just 6 hits for the afternoon. The losing pitcher was Bob Rush(0-2). He pitched 7 innings and surrendered 4 hits and 3 walks. CINCINNATI AT ST. LOUIS Redlegs......... 5 0 1 0 1 0 1 0 2 - 10 12 1 Cardinals....... 1 0 1 2 2 5 0 1 - 12 16 2 Win:Jackson(1-0) Loss:Nuxhall(0-1) Save:Wilhelm(1st) Homeruns- G.Crowe(1st), E.Bailey(1st), K.Boyer-2(2nd) Ken Boyer slammed 2 homeruns as the St. Louis Cardinals defeated the Cincinnati Redlegs 12 to 10 at Sportsman's Park. He delivered a base-hit resulting in a run in the 1st inning, smashed a two-run homer in the 5th inning and cleared the bases with a Grand Slam homerun (his 2nd of the season) in the 6th inning. Due to a poorly pitched ballgame, scoring in 5 different innings was still not enough for Cincinnati to come away with the victory. Larry Jackson(1-0) got the win allowing 3 runs in 7 innings. Hoyt Wilhelm recorded his 1st save. Joe Nuxhall(0-1) was the losing pitcher. He got hit hard, allowing 12 hits and 3 walks in 5 innings. 'It's almost like the ball was trying to hit my bat,' Boyer said. 'Whenever I would swing, the ball found the sweet spot.'
