Chicago never recovered after Milwaukee took the lead in the 4th inning scoring a single run. Milwaukee had 7 hits for the afternoon. Spahn(1-0) went the distance for the shutout. Bob Rush(0-1) was the losing pitcher. He allowed just 1 run and 4 hits in 8 innings. Fred Haney was very impressed with his pitcher, Spahn, 'He had unusually good pitch placement this afternoon. Furillo stepped into the batter's box and he tripled knocking in a run. After another out, Randy Jackson came up and he hit a deep fly scoring the final run of the inning. Philadelphia had 12 hits in the game while Brooklyn had 9, but Brooklyn had the more timely hits. The victory was credited to Ed Roebuck(1-0) who went 2 and 1/3 innings, allowing no runs.
