The Brooklyn Dodgers and the Philadelphia Phillies ended the regular
season with identical 95-59 records, forcing a best of three playoff which
opened in Philadelphia. Brooklyn's Billy Loes twirled a 4 hit shutout as the
Dodgers prevailed 5-0. The playoff
then moved to Ebbets Field in Brooklyn, where Carl Erskine pitched the
Dodgers to a 8-6 win and the 1954 NL Championship.
